Service Design

Services are the main engine for economic development and employment in developed countries. Research into Service Design looks at how design capabilities and tools are and can be applied within service organisations to stimulate innovation and cultivate a people centred service culture. In this case services are considered as new kind of design object that requires the development, test and evaluation of new methodologies and the establishment of new interdisciplinary collaborations.

Services are also considered as means for supporting the emergence of a more collaborative, sustainable and creative society and economy. The transformative role of services suggests that designers can use Service Thinking and service innovation as a driver for deeper transformations at different scales (i.e. communities, organisations, cities, regions). This is linked with research into the design and co-creation of new collaborative service models as a way to tackle the big challenges we all face today and that will significantly shape our future.
